Nothing says serious like latin names and cats.

She's serious business. One look at her and your seriousness will leave in an instant!

Alright, cat man.

Hey, at least I wasn't trying to be an internet tough guy. :)

If you want people to take your "clarifications" seriously, Mog, then you should consider changing your avatar, title, and signature to reflect this.

You know those guys that say the best way to get a girl is to be an asshole? They weren't lying.

Notice that he likes a girl that likes a guy that doesn't like her back? Textbook, man.

My point was is not to act like an asshole to get women, that's pretty pathetic.

Nice way of backpedaling yourself, there. You aren't presenting your argument well at all.

I'm curious, how long do your relationships last? Marriage is quite a bit more long-term, and on a completely different level than, any of the relationships you have been in. And also, how old are you?

Being too submissive is never a good thing, in any aspect of life. However, neither is being a complete ass and showing "aggression" to everyone you meet.

Him having a wife is entirely irrelevant because I never said that his tactics (whatever they may be) are wrong or inefficient.

And no disrespect to him, but getting a wife isn't too difficult, so that's not really a basis for an argument either. Of course, S. F. LaValle, I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying that I'm not wrong, either.

I mean seriously? I can't believe you just said that, Atavus Dei. What a piss poor argument for this particular situation.

I think him having a wife actually is, entirely, relevant. Because he has the experience which you, being single and never married, lack. Are you honestly trying to flaunt some high-schooler mentality over his actual, real experience now?

Your "I'm a baad ghetto dawg" line of thought is the reason many relationships fail these days.

PROTIP Mog: SFL has a wife. You don't.

I think you should listen to what he has to say.

I'm "new"

Welcome sir. Based on our chats in #rpgmaker.net, you seemed to be a knowledgeable person. :) Enjoy your stay, and work on that game of yours!

RMVX RTP, Chibi Graphics and Serious Games

Personally, I do not view cute graphics as a good way to portray a serious storyline. It might be your opinion that cute graphics can work with a serious storyline, but it's just never worked for me and I know this is also true of other people on this site. Cute graphics, in their very nature, are designed to try and shove the viewer's negative emotions to one side and make them feel... I don't want to say "happy", but that's the best word I can think of right now. Using graphics that are purposefully designed to be light-hearted in a way that is supposed to be serious or negative is going to be a complete clash in style, and although some people may buy into this it is unlikely that the majority will. Because of this, trying to use a cute graphical pallette when you are creating a serious game is one sure way to make sure people do not take your game seriously. (On the other hand, I am not saying cute graphics cannot be taken seriously, but they only will be taken seriously if you are making a purposefully lighthearted game, which there is absolutely nothing wrong with...)

I certainly don't think television execs. would endorse a children's television show done in the style of a Frank Miller comic book, therefore I do not think you can use a style designed for children to portray adult issues and serious plotlines.

This is not entirely accurate. Although far from Frank Miller-esque, I can think of one television example offhand that defies this rule of yours: Avatar the Last Airbender. There were many "chibi" moments even in serious times, and yet the story retained its grip and drama throughout its run.

It's entirely possible to use chibi and be serious at the same time, but the method of carrying it out has to be done carefully. Strong emphasis on that.

RM* Variables

I haven't yet begun my game, but I was considering using switches for chests/minor events/levers/etc., while using variables for the main progression/major events/puzzles. Major events would only require variable1 += 1, variable2 += 1, etc. and just check their values to see which event page comes up.

this is where you bitch about snow

So it's snowing, and I'm locked away from my college. I need one lone printer to complete my project for a class, that will probably be completely ink-depleted and/or queued with a long line by the time I get to it tomorrow. Suffice to say, the one thought resounding in my head is "FUCK!"

WHAT'S YOUR SITUATION?

ikaDB Preview

I like this. The interface is clean and straightforward, although it would be nice to have Add, Add Category, and Delete up on the top as shortcut buttons. But that's out of personal preference, me being used to them in the programs I use.

Since I haven't touched ika at all, I'm going to assume databases were previously done by hand in script. With that assumption, having an environment for managing a database is super cool. It's like using any IDE for a language; the organization is infinitely better, and you get the job done much faster than with normal tools. So yeah, it definitely helps lowering the intimidation factor. :)
